Hi, I’m Xanthe!
I am a vocalist, composer, songwriter, music supervisor, and part-time independent radio host who grew up right here in Millburn Short Hills. I have studied voice for 12 years and composition for 8 years, and I love working with artists to develop their sound and hone their skills. As a French speaker and Australian dual citizen, I am well versed in a wide variety of music genres and cultures, and I love exploring new means of self expression.
My Approach to a Typical Lesson
With every lesson, my goal is to build strong foundations that students can apply to any performance. I cater to students’ goals and interests while tying lessons back to music theory and technique.
My Advice for Students
How you frame your creative endeavors has a much bigger impact on your artistry than you realize. Music is such a cool thing that we as humans get to do, and any time spent playing music is time well spent.
My Favorite Local Places
Halo Roasters in Springfield is my go-to cafe! They have great coffee and the best music is always playing.
As a lover of indie music venues, I am a huge fan of Baker Falls, Arlene’s Grocery, and Pianos in the Lower East Side, Manhattan.
Three Tips for Success
- Find a practice plan that works for you. I always find that playing around with my instrument before getting started helps me transition into “practice mode.”
- Developing strong technique is a marathon, not a sprint. Don’t tire yourself out chasing immediate improvement, and instead take pride in learning.
- Take advantage of opportunities to make music with friends whenever you can. Music isn’t just a skill, it is an avocation.
